We are seeking a Sustainability Manager focused on Sustainable Marine Fuels at our headquarters in Cologne. In this role, you will lead the development and improvement of certification schemes for alternative marine fuels, working with international maritime stakeholders to support regulatory alignment and sustainable fuel solutions. You will monitor global regulatory frameworks, develop certification responses, conduct research on fuel chain of custody methodologies, and represent the organization in industry events. The position requires a university degree in environmental sciences, law, policy, economics, or a related field and at least three years of relevant professional experience, including in sustainable fuels or the maritime sector. Responsibilities
Lead development, maintenance, and improvement of certification schemes for Alternative Marine Fuels (AMF) ensuring compliance with legislation and market needs; provide technical expertise on AMF pathways; monitor and analyze global regulatory frameworks affecting sustainable marine fuels; design certification solutions to meet emerging regulatory requirements such as FuelEU Maritime and IMO frameworks; research and advance chain of custody methodologies; engage and build relationships with maritime sector stakeholders including fuel producers, operators, and policymakers; identify collaboration and market development opportunities; develop and deliver training programs and represent the organization at industry events and conferences.
Qualifications
University degree in environmental sciences, law, policy, economics, business management, natural sciences, or related field; minimum 3 years professional experience post-graduation with at least 2 years in sustainability, certification, fuel production/trading, shipping, or related sectors; proven knowledge of sustainable and alternative fuels, especially marine fuels; experience with marine fuel operations such as infrastructure, trading, or vessel operations; understanding of sustainability certification systems and relevant regulatory frameworks (FuelEU Maritime, IMO CII, MARPOL, EU RED); familiarity with voluntary market frameworks like SBTi and GHGP; knowledge of chain of custody methods (Mass Balance, Book & Claim); strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills; excellent English skills (C1 or higher); independent and analytical working style.
