Responsibilities

Lead design and implementation of significant platform changes in product integration. Author and sponsor design documents to align stakeholders. Conduct thorough design reviews emphasizing tradeoffs. Influence and raise team engineering standards through direct contributions and mentorship. Utilize AI tools for engineering acceleration and enable others to do the same. Apply distributed systems patterns with sound judgment, including event-driven architectures, CQRS, API gateways, and event sourcing. Produce clear, structured written artifacts like design documents and postmortems. Ensure high-quality, production-ready code and perform substantive code reviews identifying real risks. Manage database performance and schema migrations effectively. Coordinate multi-team technical projects from start to finish.

Qualifications

Minimum 8 years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated Staff-level impact, including cross-team influence and ownership of significant platform work. Strong foundation in JVM (Java and Kotlin); experience with Go or Node.js is beneficial. Proven hands-on experience with Kafka and stream processing such as Flink. Deep understanding of distributed systems fundamentals and patterns. Familiarity with API gateway technologies and database systems (relational and non-relational). Skilled in cloud services, preferably Azure, and container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes. Proficient in using AI-assisted coding tools fluently. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; German language skills are advantageous.
