Responsibilities
Lead and manage a team of 6-10 backend engineers focused on payments infrastructure, including running 1:1s, performance reviews, hiring, and onboarding. Maintain technical excellence through design review and architectural guidance. Oversee planning, prioritization, and removal of blockers to ensure quality delivery. Collaborate with product, data, and business stakeholders to align engineering goals with broader objectives. Uphold engineering standards and foster a culture of ownership and reliability. Actively participate in recruitment and cultivate an inclusive team culture. Manage incident responses and maintain a healthy on-call environment.
Qualifications
Proven experience managing engineering teams of 6 or more in a fast-paced environment. Strong technical background in distributed systems using JVM/Kotlin/Java, with expertise in identifying architectural and scalability challenges. Deep understanding of high-throughput Postgres and Kafka systems and observability metrics like SLOs/SLIs. Proficiency in agile project management and delivering complex projects on schedule while maintaining team wellbeing. Familiarity with financial system requirements including PCI-DSS compliance and auditability. Excellent communication skills to engage diverse stakeholders from technical and non-technical backgrounds.
