Responsibilities
Scout and evaluate commercial prototype battery cells; select optimal chemistries meeting size, weight, and power targets. Design and conduct rigorous battery cell tests including HPPC, EIS, cycle life, aging, and extreme temperatures. Analyze testing data to develop equivalent circuit and degradation models. Lead failure root cause analysis and define physical failure assessments. Collaborate with suppliers on cell specifications, quality control, and acceptance testing. Perform battery abuse testing to validate safety parameters.
Qualifications
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrochemistry, or related field. At least 3 years of experience in battery cell engineering or manufacturing. Strong understanding of lithium-ion electrochemistry and degradation mechanisms. Experience programming and operating battery test equipment. Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or R for data processing. Ideally experience with high C-rate profiles in aerospace or drone applications, working in battery manufacturing environments, and knowledge of next-generation battery technologies.
